Designing a baby’s and toddler’s bedroom is an exciting adventure. Whether it’s going over-the-top or keeping it simple, every detail counts. In this post, I’ve curated numerous baby’s and kid’s bedroom ideas ideas to help you design a wonderful space that reflects your child’s personality and needs.
Wallpaper that wows
A striking wallpaper can dramatically transform the atmosphere of your child’s bedroom. For a touch of whimsy, I adore a jungle-themed wallpaper that serves as a playful backdrop. When selecting furniture and accents, coordinate with the colours in your wallpaper to create a cohesive look. One of my favourite sources for children’s room wallpaper is Wall Art, which offers an excellent selection of charming designs.
Wall tattoos: easy and impactful
Not just for bodies, wall tattoos (or stickers) provide a simple way to add character to your space without permanence or effort. I chose a playful wall tattoo from Hardenberg for my own baby’s room, along with the delightful Sleepy Moon Wall Lamp and the Stars and Moon stickers in gold and silver. These elements combine to bring magic and wonder to the room.
Dynamic spaces for active kids
If you have a lively toddler, creating a space for physical play is crucial. An indoor playground, like the fabulous climbing wall by Mamoi, ensures your little one stays active and engaged, no matter the weather. It’s not just about fun; these setups can also enhance your decor.
The joy of an indoor slide
Imagine a slide leading right from your child’s bed—a surefire way to start the day with a smile! The featured bunk bed not only includes a fun slide but also boasts clever integrated storage within each stair-drawer. It’s a perfect solution for shared bedrooms or sleepovers, offering both function and excitement.
Girls just wanna have fun
For a girl’s room that dazzles, get inspired by this beautiful image. Consider integrating storage, playful lighting, and cozy decor elements like the stunning cloud lamp by Vidilion. If the space allows, adding a desk or reading nook beneath a loft bed can create a multi-functional area for play, study, and rest.
Boys will be boys or rather stylish unisex designs
Move beyond traditional color schemes with a unisex palette, like the soothing sage seen in this example. This room features under-bed storage, atmospheric lighting, and thoughtful decor that could suit any child. Highlights include a stylish yet functional light from Lidfad and a large, cuddly giraffe from H&M.
Designing shared spaces
When siblings share a room, giving each child their own defined space can make all the difference. Our design concept includes separate “house-themed” areas for each child, allowing them to personalise their own space.
Small but mighty – maximising small spaces
For smaller rooms, integrated storage solutions are key. This compact design includes beds with built-in storage and a streamlined desk area, keeping the room organised and spacious. Art prints from Juniqe add a touch of style without overwhelming the space.
Ultimate kid’s playroom
Create the ultimate playroom with a jungle theme that’s fun and functional. This room includes everything from a climbing frame to a decorative ladder, all within a stylish, unisex decor scheme.
Toddlers love play kitchens, and those from Petite Amelie offer beauty without overwhelming sensory features. These kitchens are perfect for imaginative play, starting as early as 18 months.
Fun and functional kid’s furniture
From teepee tents available on Amazon to chic play sofas from MiMii, these pieces provide both fun and functionality. A ball pit is also a stylish and fun piece of furniture for toddlers. Lastly, a desk and some chairs are also very handy and can look gorgeous, like this children’s table from Jotex. I also found this Wishbone-like children’s chair – what an eye-catcher.
Toy storage
I am not a fan of treading into lego pieces on the floor and am a firm believer in organising and tidying up after playing. A cube system is my favourite because it is very versatile. It can be used with or without storage boxes and one could go as far as labelling those said boxes. Ikea has a line called Trofast which is very practical. To add a more luxurious feel to Ikea, combine Trofast with beautiful boxes, like the ones I found on etsy.
Refreshing of kid’s bedroom with easy decor updates
Updating soft furnishings, like adding new cushions or a thematic lamp, can quickly change the ambiance of your child’s room. Look for playful yet practical items like a push car from Vilac. For children’s rugs check out Benuta, Bloomingville Mini and Lorena Canals. They also offer some washable models which really makes sense in children’s’ rooms. Furthermore, get a cute lamp, like this safari themed ceiling light, or balloon wall lamps to create the vibe you are looking for. Round up the interior design of your child’s room with some wall decoration or one or more above mentioned wall tattoos. And add some plush cushions like this cloud cushion by H&M and plush toys for the (final) touch.
Ensuring sweet dreams
When it’s time to rest, a versatile cot like the Sebra baby and junior bed, which grows with your child, is an excellent choice. Also, explore the range of stylish and practical beds from Oliver Furniture. For Montessori style “Hausbetten”, make sure to check out Wallenfels.
